How to Prepare for a Successful XERF Treatment
(And Why Hydration Matters)
Getting the best results from your XERF treatment starts before you even walk in the door. A little preparation goes a long way in helping your skin respond better—and ensuring a smoother experience overall.
Protect Your Skin First
In the weeks leading up to your appointment, avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners. Sun-stressed skin is more sensitive and can impact your results. Daily SPF (30 or higher) is a must.
Simplify Your Skincare
About 5–7 days before treatment, pause active products like retinoids, glycolic acids, and exfoliants. Also avoid chemical peels, waxing, or microdermabrasion in the treatment area for at least 1–2 weeks prior.
Hydration Is Key
This is one of the most important—and most overlooked—steps. XERF uses radiofrequency energy, which works more effectively in well-hydrated tissue.
In the 24–48 hours before your appointment, increase your water intake and limit anything that can dehydrate you. The more hydrated your skin is, the better it can respond to treatment.
Day of Treatment
Keep it simple:
Clean skin only (no makeup, lotions, or oils)
Shave the area 1–2 days prior if needed
Let your provider know about any medical conditions or implants
After Your Treatment
You may experience mild redness or swelling for a day or two. Use a gentle moisturizer, avoid harsh products, and skip anything that increases heat in the area right after treatment.
Most importantly—keep wearing SPF and stay hydrated to support your results.
The Takeaway
XERF delivers powerful skin-tightening results, but preparation matters. Protecting your skin, simplifying your routine, and especially staying hydrated can make a noticeable difference in how your skin looks and feels after treatment.
